Why is this website here?

I started writing "Math, Religion, and the Universe" in the spring of 2004 as an outgrowth other writing I was doing at the time.  I was going through a complicated divorce and soul searching was inevitable.  Meanwhile I had many strange, difficult, and frightening experiences to cope with.  It was the struggle to persevere despite these challenges that made me question my beliefs.  I found more answers than I had expected and infinitely more questions.

I started writing in messy misspelled longhand, which I still do occasionally.  The last entry in my journal before I started writing this says "I think I'm going to write a book called Math and Religion."  I added "the Universe" later.

I was experiencing a melding of knowledge and experience.  Epiphanies simultaneously disquieting and comforting.

So I started writing "Math, Religion, and the Universe" and immediately questioned the idea of a book.  Writing books is great, but these days publishing just about anything is easy, and what could be easier than publishing on the web?  There we go.  If it turns into a book along the way that's fine.  Books are an awesome and ancient medium that may very well outlive laptops, although more likely they will both just converge.

What is next?

I'm writing some software to explore and animate fractal pictures.  I got it to the point where I was able to generate an interesting movie before my laptop crapped out.  I will get back to the software and generate new and more interesting sequences soon.  Years ago in the early 90's I also made fractal animations however using some pretty archaic machines and techniques.  I have some of those animations on video tape that I'll digitize sometime soon for the web and I will also explain the techniques that I used to make them.  I also plan to write about my theories as to the significance of fractal patterns to everything.  Until then you can check out the one recent animation that I did here (be patient, it's a really big file).

I'm also starting a new "book".  Aka, something I'll put on the web at some point....  If you're curious feel free to ask me about it steve@mathreligionandtheuniverse.org

How do questions get here?  There are many many questions.  These questions here are questions that I would guess that people have.  I'll add more that either I actually get asked or that I think should be asked.
